  • How does Cobo work?
Cobo provides an easy to use cloud-based portal where customers are able to view and manage network health. Various network health metrics are collected locally and forwarded to the cloud portal by a device we call “The Surfer.” From within the portal authorized users are able to view network health metrics, set thresholds for alarms, establish notification policies, search a database of historical network events, and even securely access network devices.
  • So what is a Surfer?
The Surfer is a small hardware device that locally collects health information from network devices. It is shipped pre-configured from Cobo to the customer location and connects to a local ethernet port. The Surfer uses SNMP, syslog, ping, and ARP to collect network health information. These health metrics are then forwarded to the Cobo cloud portal via an HTTPs web client.
  • What devices can Cobo monitor?
COBO can monitor any reachable device that supports ping, syslog, or SNMP. Of course the level of information presented depends on the method used. The richest level of real-time monitoring is via SNMP.
  • How many network devices can a Surfer support?
As a guideline, the Surfer can support about 200 devices. The scale may vary with the amount of information you choose to collect on your individual network.
  • How do I connect the surfer to my network?
The Surfer needs an ethernet connection to the network you would like to monitor. Two ethernet connections are required: One connection to reach the managed devices and the other must have Internet access to reach the Cobo Cloud. The Surfer will need to be able to reach all IP subnets you wish to monitor. For SNMP monitoring you’ll need to ensure the Surfer can reach all of the communities you would like to monitor.
  • How much traffic will the Surfer generate on my LAN and WAN connections?
On average, COBO will generate no more than 2Kbits per second per device on the LAN and the same on the WAN. This is inclusive of SNMP traffic and syslog traffic.
  • How many sites can I monitor with a single Surfer?
A single Surfer can monitor devices across multiple sites if: Note: The Surfer cannot communicate via SNMP to a site that uses NAT on its WAN The devices are reachable via ICMP ping from the LAN where the Surfer is installed
  • Can I directly to connect to monitored devices through Cobo?
You can directly connect to monitored devices via a terminal screen within the Cobo portal. The connection uses SSH securely tunneled through the Cobo cloud. Cobo also enables connection to a device specific Web GUI within the Cobo portal. The connection uses HTTPs securely tunneled through the Cobo cloud.
  • How much time can I expect my team to spend on maintaining the Cobo solution?
With Cobo, there is no hardware to procure and maintain. There are no upgrades or patches to apply. It is all included and administered remotely. Typically, a few hours on the front end to complete a site survey is all your team will need to do.
  • Do you offer 24x7 support?
Cobo provides 24x7 web based and email support and phone support as required. The cost of this support is included in the license fee. Our commitment is next business day responses, however, it's typically much faster.
  • How do I know the cloud is secure?
Surfer Security - The surfer is secure from external attacks since it sits within your security domain (i.e. behind firewalls). The surfer uses secure HTTPs as a web client to communicate with the COBO cloud. Your company’s internet access policies are applied to all SURFER traffic. Cloud Security - The Cobo Cloud is secured through 3 levels of security technologies. AWS GuardDuty (which has proven itself against the latest large scale DDOS attacks), AWS Web application Firewall, and AWS Shield. All information and compute resources are locked down behind these 3 security layers. User Security – COBO uses the top rated Auth0 service for user identity management and security. Auth0 has achieved Level 2 audit Gold Star certification and is compliant with the PCI Data Security Standard. COBO does not store and cannot know customer's user passwords. Remote Access Security – COBO’s remote access capability utilizes all three security mechanisms; Cloud Security, Surfer Security and User Security. Remote Access traffic is encapsulated within COBO’s secured Cloud connection and then presented to the user within the Secure Web Browser connection. Connections are fully encrypted and authenticated.
  • So how much does it cost?
Cobo is a cloud native subscription based software as a service. Your subscription cost will depend on the size of your network. Annual subscriptions are available with incentives offered for multi-year agreements. Your subscription covers all costs: Hardware, software, support, upgrades, maintenance, etc... Since there is no hardware costs, no annual maintenance costs, and no software upgrade costs we have found Cobo to be a fraction of the total cost of legacy solutions.
